LEH: Programs and Services

LEH Pictorial Tour

For the past several years the Louis E. Harris Center for Youth Development, Inc. and the Community Relations Officer and staff of the 14th Police District has partnered together to mentor youth desiring a mentor. The 14th District Mentoring Programs is to provide services to children 7-17 years old; who do not have both parents in the household because of some reason or another; and most likely to end up in jail without positive intervention. The mentor will meet with a child four times a month or when ever time is convenient for both of them. The first rule in any mentor program is to find our positive and negative view; get to know that child. You and your child can laugh at silly jokes, play in the park, watch TV or work on homework. There are more than 100, 000 school age children in Philadelphia who are facing problems that severely impact their ability to become self-sufficient adults. Our goal is for every young person who wants and needs a mentor to have access to one, to help improve their quality of life.

A workshop will be held every third Wednesday each month during the school year along with the 14th Police District Community Relations officer and staff at the Louis E. Harris Center for Youth Development located at 6406 Stenton Avenue. Topics of interest will be given by guest speakers and 14th Police District staff.
